Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti chaired a meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) in Srinagar on Sunday, following the Union Home Secretary’s invitation to 14 J&K leaders for a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week.

The PAC decided that Ms. Mufti would take a call on meeting Mr. Modi after a meeting of the Gupkar alliance, scheduled for Tuesday.

“All members of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) shared their inputs on engaging the Centre. It was unanimously decided that Ms. Mufti will be authorised to take a final call during her meeting with members of the Gupkar alliance [People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration],” PDP spokesman Suhail Bukhari said.

Sources said Ms. Mufti is for nominating National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah as the Gupkar alliance leader to meet the Prime Minister on June 24 in Delhi.

Dr. Abdullah also held consultations with senior leaders of the NC, including party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and provincial president of Kashmir Nasir Aslam Wani.

Others who attended the meeting were Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Mian Altaf, Mubarak Gul, Sakina Itoo, Khalid Najeeb Suhurwardy and two Members of Parliament Mohammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi.

“The consultations are on. After the party president is done talking to party leaders, a meeting of the PAGD will take place where the member parties will discuss the issue and take a collective decision,” Mr. Wani told reporters after the meeting.

Sajad Lone also chaired a meeting of his Peoples Conference in Srinagar.
