Meghalaya’s Home Minister Roshan Warjri on Thursday night tendered her resignation to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma owning moral responsibility for the prevailing law and order situation in Garo hills region of the state following spurt in militancy.

The Chief Minister, however, refused to accept her resignation and requested her to continue in the Cabinet.

“Ms Warjri tendered resignation to own moral responsibility for the prevailing law and order situation in Garo Hills and loss of lives of civilians and men in uniform.

I have discussed with her and told her that she is deeply committed to serve the people and she should continue in the Cabinet.

Maintenance of law and order not only in Garo Hills but also in the entire state is a collective responsibility of everyone and we definitely require her service to overcome the challenges and ensure sustained peace,” Meghalaya Chief Minister told The Hindu on Friday.
