Maoists’ bid to blow up rail track

January 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:47 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

Suspected Maoists triggered two explosions on the railway track between Doikallu and Muniguda railway stations in Rayagada-Titlagarh rail section under Sambalpur Division of East Coast Railway on Friday night affecting train services in the section for several hours.

A railway gangman sustained minor injury when a team from the nearby Muniguda station went to the spot after the first explosion, according to the police. The two blasts occurred between 1.30 a.m. and 4 a.m.

Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik told journalists in Bhubaneswar that the track was not damaged though some concrete sleepers were affected due to the low intensity explosions. The tracks in the region were sanitised after the incident, he said.

According to an official release issued by the East Coast Railway, after a senior CRPF official posted at their Muniguda camp informed the railway authorities, train services in Rayagada-Titlagarh section were controlled at different stations.

A light diesel engine carrying engineering and Railway Protection Force personnel was rushed to the spot for repair and patrolling in the section. The affected tracks were fit for running of trains at about 7.50 a.m. with security clearance from the Government Railway Police.
