Manipur remains peaceful; injured man dies


A man succumbed to his burn injuries, inflicted during the protest at Churachandpur town of Manipur against the passage of three Bills in the Assembly on August 31, even as the town remained peaceful on Monday.

He died at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal, police officials said, adding that with this, the death toll in recent violence rose to nine.

The agitators have been protesting against the passage of three Bills in the Manipur Assembly to protect the indigenous people of the State.

Several government buildings, houses of a Minister and an MP have been torched by the protesters since the agitation began on August 31.
