Manipur insurgency contained: police

The Manipur police have claimed impressive success in containing insurgency related violence and in bringing the "misguided youths" to the mainstream during 2014.

The Kangleipak Communist Party (K.K. Nganba group) had signed the MoU wth the Manipur government and 37 insurgents had verground with 31 assorted arms during homecoming ceremonies, the police said.

Besides 19 cadres with 17 assorted arms belonging to the KCP (Nongdrenkhomba group) had joined the homecoming ceremony after signing the MoU with the government. Over 90 insurgents had surrendered at individual capacity,

The police said that altogether 670 insurgents were apprehended and 9 were gunned down in encounters. Poppy plants at vast areas had been destroyed and banned drugs seized.

According to reports, 3 IEDs were exploded during 2014 causing 12 deaths, mostly migrant workers and injuring 53 others. Suspected insurgents had planted 58 IEDs at different places and police had neutrailised the same.
