Manipur HC asks human rights organisation to withdraw petition

: A Division Bench of Manipur High Court on Wednesday directed the Human Rights Alert (HRA) and the Families of Involuntarily Disappeared Association Manipur (FIDAM) to withdraw their petition, now that the Manipur government has decided to hand over the case to the CBI.

The two organisations in their petition had requested the handing over the case to a central agency like the Special Investigation Team and suspension of the digging works in the field where a shopping mall will be constructed.

On December 25 and 26, the workers in the construction site had found eight human skulls and other bones buried there.

Fearing that more skulls and bones may be buried there, the two organisations had sought the court’s intervention.
