Maharashtra Minister faces flak for special flight to Tirupati

Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Manguntiwar came under all round criticism on Wednesday after reports of his travel to Tirupati by a special plane were aired by some news channels.

Mr.Manguntiwar had reportedly used a special plane for over two days over the weekend to fly to Tiraputi and come back to Nagpur.

“The Finance Minister of the State uses special planes to fly to distant locations. It may be his personal trip but why is his party paying for the special plane? Where did the funds for special flight come from?” asked senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar.

An infuriated Mr. Manguntiwar lashed out at the media for “indulging in sensationalism”.

“ I had told the CM that I needed to go to Tirupati for some important work. I also requested him to provide help for my travel,” said Mr.Manguntiwar when questioned about his travel by a special plane.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, however, defended Mr.Manguntiwar.

“He came to me and told me that he had been appointed a trustee to the Tirupati trust. He also told me that he needed to visit Tirupati urgently but his travel was clashing with the winter session. I gave him the permission to fly by a special plane. The BJP paid for the special plane,” Mr.Fadnavis told reporters here.

Mr.Manguntiwar had to face criticism in the Lower House of the State legislature with the Opposition targeting him for indulging in lavish lifestyle when the State was facing severe drought.
