Mahagathbandhan a bogey: Shahnawaz

Cannot defeat the BJP under Modi, he says

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said on Saturday that a people’s coalition will ensure Narendra Modi’s victory in 2019 and pull the curtains down on the ragtag mahagathbandhan stitched by Opposition parties, whose leaders are dreaming of being Prime Minister.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s State headquarters, Mr. Hussain said, “The issue of mahagatbandhan is a bogey and it cannot defeat the BJP, because those who are on the dais are dreaming of becoming PM. Those dreams will remain unfulfilled.”

He described the mahagatbandahan as a platform for a betrayal of people. He charged that those leaders who were addressing the mahagatbandhan rally in Kolkata on Saturday had been supportive of naxal and anti-national forces.

“In Mamta Banderjee’s rally today, some people have supported naxals, some uttered words in support of those caught for sedition. It is not correct,” Mr. Hussain said.

He attacked Congress and Rahul Gandhi for “spreading fake news”.

“We believe these fake statements will not have an impact and the people understand this. The whole country knows how fake the Congress is,” the former Union Minister said.
