Jailed vice-chairman of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Pradip Gogoi on Monday said the general council of the outfit would take the final decision on holding peace talks with the government.
“I cannot make any individual comment on it. We will have to discuss it in the general council. I will discuss about it with other leaders currently in jail. However, the talks will depend on the goodwill of the government and in what situation they want to have it,” the senior ULFA leader told journalists in the premise of the designated (TADA) court here when he was asked to comment the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s appeal to the jailed ULFA leaders and communiqué from them expressing willingness to hold peace talks.
Mr. Gogoi was produced in the court along with two other jailed ULFA leaders — finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika and cultural secretary Pranati Deka.
The court, however, sought an explanation from the authorities of Central Jail, Guwahati for failure to produce three other jailed leaders including outfit’s chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa.
The court also fixed February 5 for hearing and passing order on bail applications of Mr. Gogoi and another jailed ULFA leader - former central publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary.
