A 40-year-old man who raped his 14-year-old daughter in front of her two younger sisters was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Odisha’s Berhampur on Wednesday.

According to public prosecutor Narayan Panda, the man committed the crime at his home at a village in Ganjam district on March 28, 2017. He raped his eldest daughter in the presence of his younger daughters, who were 11 and 9 then. The minor girls were living with their father after he drove their mother out of their home.

The POCSO court also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on the convict. “The court ordered the government to provide ₹7,00000 for rehabilitating the victim, who is still a minor,” said Mr Panda.

There were eight witnesses in the case, including the victim’s two sisters. The three siblings are at present lodged in a shelter home, said Mr. Panda.
