At a time when fissures appeared in the grand alliance against the surge of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Left parties on Monday put up a united front and declared that the mythical “Ashwamedha horse” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be stopped in the Assembly poll in Bihar.

The Left leaders also appealed to the people of the State to vote for the third alternative.

For the first time, all the six major Left parties have decided to contest all the 243 seats as one bloc.

Top leaders of the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), the All India Forward Bloc, the Socialist Unity Centre of India and the Revolutionary Socialist party held a joint convention in Patna and slammed the BJP-led NDA and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led grand alliance for “misleading people and diverting their attention from the real issues.”

Drawing a parallel with the mythological Ramayana, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that just like Lord Rama’s ‘Ashwamedha horse’ was at last stopped by his two sons, Mr. Modi’s ‘Ashwamedha horse’ too would be foiled by twin brothers in Bihar, one with a sickle in hand and the other with a hammer.

“Farmers and workers of Bihar will stop Mr. Modi’s Ashwamedha horse in the coming poll and at the same time it is also important to defeat the ruling Janata Dal [United]-led grand alliance,” said Mr. Yechury.

Calling the NDA “Dusashan” and the Nitish Kumar-led grand alliance as “Singhasan,” the CPI(M) leader said there was a triangular option before the people of Bihar.

“Last week, the entire Modi government bowed before the RSS at a meeting and reports suggest the RSS has instructed the Modi government to implement its agenda,” charged Mr. Yechury.

The Left leader also took on the grand alliance of the ruling JD(U), the RJD and the Congress saying “theirs has been an opportunistic alliance which has been using caste for politics and vote.”
