In a letter that highlights the persistent tension between former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna and Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Bahuguna has warned Rawat that he would hold a rally against his own party – Congress – if the issues over land regularisation were left unaddressed by the Congress Government.
In the letter addressed to Rawat, Bahuguna has mentioned that the issue of land regularisation of category IV and category 1 (A) were pending with the State Government for over a year.
“The issue of land regularisation is pending with the current government even though a decision on it was taken during my tenure,” Bahuguna stated in the letter.
He said that if the State Cabinet cleared the proposed amendments to the sections of the Zamindari Abolition and Land Reforms (ZALR) Act then it would benefit leaseholders in the Terai region, especially in Sitarganj (Bahuguna’s Vidhan Sabha constituency) and Shaktifarm areas in Udham Singh Nagar district.
If the State Cabinet did not resolve the issue soon then he would hold a protest rally – ‘Janakrosh rally’ – in Udham Singh Nagar, Bahuguna warned the Chief Minister in his letter.
On being questioned on the issue, Rawat, on Friday said, “I had formed a sub-committee to study the issue. The report of the committee is out and it will soon be presented in the State Cabinet.”
