The Kotwali area remained peaceful on Sunday, two days after a protest rally here turned violent.
Shops opened in the evening amid tight security as the city prepared for the Muslim festival of Id-ul-Fitr. In the nearby areas, business was normal throughout the day.
Late on Saturday evening, District Magistrate Anil Kumar directed shopkeepers across the city to remain open on Sunday to allow people to shop for Id-ul-Fitr.
Allahabad Police Superintendent (City) Shailesh Yadav said the namaz for Id would be conducted under the supervision of the PAC, the RAF and State police. The forces were keeping a close watch on the area, he said.
Police conducted flag marches across the city on Sunday. Curfew was imposed here after a protest rally against the violence in Assam and Myanmar turned violent. Over a hundred vehicles and at least a dozen shops were damaged in Friday's incident.
