Om Prakash Kohli was sworn in as Gujarat Governor at a function in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.
Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court Bhaskar Bhattacharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Kohli. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Vajubhai Vala and Ministers of the State Cabinet were present.
Mr. Kohli, a former Rajya Sabha member, is a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well as an academic. He was the president of the BJP’s Delhi unit. He served as a lecturer at the Delhi University-affiliated Hansraj College and Deshbandhu College for over 37 years. He retired from service as a reader in 1994. He was arrested during the Emergency.
Mr. Kohli’s appointment follows the unceremonious exit of former Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal.
