Krishan Kant Paul, who will replace Dr. Aziz Qureshi as the Governor of Uttarakhand, will be sworn in as the State’s sixth Governor on January 8.
According to a Presidential communiqué, Meghalaya Governor Paul, who would replace the current Uttarakhand Governor Dr. Qureshi, would continue to hold the office of the Governor of Manipur till further orders.
The communiqué, which was released from the Rashtrapati Bhawan on December 30, stated that the current Uttarakhand Governor Dr Qureshi would be transferred to Mizoram.
Challenging the move of the Modi government of seeking resignations of Governors appointed during the UPA government, Dr Qureshi had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court stating that in July, last year, the Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami had telephonically asked him to resign from his post and had intimated him of being removed from his office if Dr Qureshi did not resign. However, in October, last year, Mr Goswami denied threatening Dr Qureshi to make him resign.
