Krishan Kant Paul, who replaced Aziz Qureshi as the Governor of Uttarakhand, was sworn in as the sixth Governor of Uttarakhand on Thursday.
Justice V. K. Bisht of the Uttarakhand High Court administered the oath of office to Dr. Paul at the Raj Bhawan Dehradun.
In his address to the gathering at the Raj Bhawan, Dr. Paul said the State had a vast scope for development. “Its [Uttarakhand’s] forests, water resources, minerals, conducive environment along with the calibre of the people of the State can be utilised to lead the State towards being more knowledgeable, and one with an improved economy.”
He said the State was prone to natural disasters, which made Uttarakhand a challenging place. Dr Paul added that a balance between environmental concerns and needs of the locals was required in the disaster-affected areas across the State where the works of reconstruction and rehabilitation were underway.
