‘Katju remark surprising’

October 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:30 am IST - SHIMLA:

Expressing surprise over the comments of former Supreme Court Judge Markandey Katju on Hindutva, Lok Sabha MP and senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar has urged him to refrain from making such statements.

He said such ‘provocative’ statements hurt the feelings of people. “His unpleasant comments against Hindutva betrayed his (lack of) knowledge about Hinduism which reposed indefinable faith in all religions and communities,” said Mr. Kumar. Urging Justice Katju from refraining from igniting communal feelings among communities, he said the Hindu scriptures preached universal well-being even of the animals and insects.

Eminent persons like social, political and religious leaders should try to generate communal harmony and brotherhood among various communities to usher in happiness, he added.
