Kashmir Valley shuts down to protest Sopore killings

June 18, 2015 02:43 am | Updated November 16, 2021 04:59 pm IST - SRINAGAR:

The Kashmir Valley observed a complete shutdown on Wednesday in protest against the spate of targeted killings of civilians in Sopore over the last three weeks.

The call for the shutdown was given jointly by Kashmir’s separatist leaders, who have repeatedly accused “Indian intelligence agencies” of the killings. The J&K police, however, blamed a split group of Hizbul Mujahideen for the killings.

Almost all business establishments, educational institutes and offices across the Valley remained closed on Wednesday and public transport largely kept off the roads.

Security was beefed up at various places in Srinagar and Baramulla districts.
