Joint operation on in Bastar

A joint operation by security forces is on across Bastar in Chhattisgarh, which witnessed a Maoist attack on Saturday last in which 27 people, including Congress leaders were killed.

Additional Director-General (Naxal Operations) R.K. Vij told The Hindu that simultaneous “intensive” operations were on in Bijapur, Sukma, hilly tracts of Darbha and surrounding areas and in parts of Narayanpur district. The CRPF, the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces and the Special Task Force were leading the operations.

Since last Saturday’s ambush in the Jeeram area of Darbha, Maoists have carried out several attacks on ex-members of the anti-Maoist movement, Salwa Judum. In one of the incidents, an ex-sarpanch of Errabore, S.M. Mukka was killed.
