: Irom Sharmila who was released, as the charge against her of attempting to commit suicide was quashed, continued her fast unto death from Thursday night in the heart of the Imphal town. A medical team is monitoring her health.

Heavily armed police personnel are guarding Irom Sharmila, who is sitting at the foot of the statue of king Bhyachandra at Imphal town.

Doctors checked her health on Friday morning and her blood pressure was 100/80. However, in the afternoon her blood pressure was low at 100/60.

The doctors are concerned about her health. Police indicated that they will be constrained to re-arrest her sometime on Friday night.

Talking briefly to reporters, Ms Sharmila said that her 14-year long fast unto death is not for a handful of people.

She said that she is launching a campaign for protection of human rights and that she will not break her fast until the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 is repealed.
