Most parts of Odisha continued to be in the grip of an intense cold wave with snowfall reported from a few places in the interior districts of the State on Sunday.

While the lowest of 3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Daringbadi in Kandhamal district, Bhubaneswar city recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the month of December in the past 22 years.

Mercury dipped below 10 degrees in as many as 18 places across the State. Phulbani, the district headquarters town of Kandhamal, recorded a minimum temperature of 4.5 degrees.

The prevailing cold wave condition was due to an upper air trough over central India which was moving towards the eastern region.

According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail for the next two days.
