The Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa), an annual event that features cultural exchange between Portugal and Goa, will complete a decade with the tenth edition of the event set to begin here later this weekend.

The annual event is an effort to celebrate and appreciate the rich cultural flavours of the two nations – India and Portugal, said Antônio Chrystello Tavares, Portugese Consul General in Goa, who is the Convenor of the Executive Committee of Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa.

Like previous editions, this year too will celebrate the Indian and Portuguese culture. The event will include a film festival, concert by a Fadista, singing competition, music workshops, photography exhibition and Indo-Portuguese cuisine, said Mr. Francisco Martins, chairman of the event committee on Monday.

“India and Portugal are both regions steeped in rich heritage and culture. India is a mingling of diverse cultures, all special in their own way. Goa too has its own unique identity and culture which is a blend of Indian and western nuances. Goa has assimilated the essence of both regions where people coexist in harmony and joy. Through this event Semana da Cultura Indo–Portuguesa [Goa] we would like to share and enjoy the essence of our diverse culture,” said Mr. Martins.

One of the key highlights of the cultural celebration is a two day culinary and music festival. Scheduled to be held on the 29th and 30th of November on the outskirts of the city, the event will see a host of Goan musicians perform through the evening. It will host a Fado singing competition on December 5.

Simultaneously, Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) will also host a photography exhibition at Institute Menezes Braganza hall in the city from December 5-7.

A Portuguese film festival will be held from December 9-11 at Maquinez Palace, Old GMC Complex in Panaji, curated by Nalini Elvino de Souza and Prof. Delfim Correia Da Silva.

Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) have partnered with Fundação Oriente and Instituto Camões who are hosting a Fado concert by Portuguese Fadista “Ana Pinhal” and the popular annual musical event ‘Vem Cantar’.
