An Indian Air Force (IAF) advanced trainer aircraft crashed in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Wednesday afternoon.
Two pilots saved their lives by getting off the aircraft just before the crash.
The incident took place at Kudarsahi village under the Bisoi police station limits in Mayurbhanj district at 1.23 p.m.
The aircraft crashed and went up in flames. The State police said there was no loss of life or property since the aircraft crashed in an agricultural field away from human habitation.
“Mobile teams to trace the two pilots identified as Sachin and Siddhant were deployed soon after the accident. The pilots suffered injuries while landing, using the parachute,” said Asit Panigrahi, Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range).
The pilots were given primary treatment at a local hospital.
A rescue aircraft from the Kalaikunda Air Force Station from neighbouring West Bengal immediately reached the accident site and air-lifted the two pilots to Kalaikunda.
Sources said the ill-fated aircraft, along with two other aircraft, had taken off from the Air Force station at around 12.30 p.m.
An expert team from the Ministry of Defence is on its way to Odisha for conducting an investigation.
