Himachal officers not obeying orders of Chief Minister: doctors’ body

The Himachal Pradesh Medical Officers’ Association has alleged that bureaucrats and senior officials of the Himachal government have stopped listening to the orders of octogenarian Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. The association of doctors who had met the Chief Minister sometime back against the repeated attacks on medical officers on duty said that despite the categorical orders by the Chief Minister to bureaucrats to take cognizance, no action has been taken by them.

The State doctors, who had gone on a pen down strike while demanding an amendment in the “Prevention of Violence and Damage to Hospital Property Act” and making the offence as non-bailable, are surprised that after repeated assurances there is no check on violence and assaults on them, when they are on duty. “The Secretary Health and Director Health are paying no heed to the demands of doctors and appear in no mood to listen to the orders of the Chief Minister who had persuaded us to take back the strike, alleged Dr S.L .Sharma and Jiwanand Chauhan, president and secretary of the medical officers association.

The association has also condemned the recent attack on medical officers in Kangra and Chamba yesterday. They have expressed surprise that the State Health Minster had not attended the recent cabinet meeting in which this amendment was to be discussed and the offence of physical attack on medical officers was to be made non-bailable.

The association has planned to stop giving services where the government is not providing adequate security to the medical officers.

Similarly the Himachal Kisan Sabha has also expressed surprise on the non-compliance of Chief Minister’s orders by the government officials. The Kisan Sabha has alleged that the Chief Minister who had ordered to stop the eviction of small and marginal farmers by the revenue and forest officials in a derive to check encroachments after a court order, is totally unaware of the ground situation.

The government officials have not stopped their move to trouble the poor farmers and are forcibly evicting them from their fields and orchards. The Chief Minister had promised not to touch the small peasants and had pledged to regularise their encroachments up to 10 bighas of land required for sustenance farming and necessary survival, said the peasants’ associations.
