High Court disbands Shirdi temple trust

March 14, 2012 03:17 am | Updated 03:17 am IST - PUNE:

The Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court on Tuesday ordered the disbanding of the Shirdi Sai Sansthan, the temple trust body that governs the famous Sai Baba temple in Shirdi in Ahmednagar district.

The court ordered the Ahmednagar Collector to oversee the formation of a new body for one of India's richest temple trusts, within two weeks.

The court action came after the BJP's Shirdi president Rajendra Gondkar and social activist Sandip Kulkarni filed a PIL, alleging misappropriation of funds by some trustees.

The managing committee's term expired in 2007, but no new committee has been formed since then. The Bench noted that for the last six years, the rules had not been framed to govern the trust as per conditions laid down under Section 25 of the Shree Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (Shirdi) Act, 2004.
