High Court asks M.P. govt. to file affidavit on Vyapam scam

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday asked the state government to file an affidavit before it on the Vyapam recruitment scam within a week.

The development came after the M.P. High Court took note of key Vyapam scam whistleblower Anand Rai’s written submission that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been mounting pressure on him to stop the campaign against him (Chouhan) and his family about the massive admission and recruitment racket.

A division Bench of the High Court, comprising Justice P. K. Jaiswal and Justice D. K. Paliwal, gave a week’s time to the state to file an affidavit after Additional Advocate General Sunil Jain sought time to do so.

In an affidavit submitted to the High Court on Wednesda, Rai (38), who is a government doctor, stated that he was summoned by the CM to his official residence on August 11, 2015 through a common friend.

“The meeting began at 9.45 pm and ended at 10.50 pm in the night,” Mr Rai’s affidavit stated.

“The Chief Minister assured me that if I stopped my campaign on Vyapam as well as Dental and Medical Admission Test (DMAT) state quota scam against him and his family, I and my wife will be allowed to remain at Indore and my transfer order will be cancelled,” his affidavit stated.

“The Chief Minister also assured that he will instruct the Advocate General’s office to give this in writing before the High Court,” Mr Rai’s sworn submission to the High Court stated.

Mr Rai has moved the High Court challenging his and his wife Gauri’s transfer out of Indore, alleging that it is a vindictive move by the Chief Minister.

He had petitioned the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into an alleged scam in the Vyapam (Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal) admission to state government-run medical colleges and DMAT exam for admission to private medical colleges.

The Supreme Court has already ordered a central agency probe into Vyapam scam while it is hearing the petition seeking a CBI probe into DMAT scam. - PTI
