Independence Day celebrations are likely to be marred by adverse weather conditions in Odisha on Wednesday with the Meteorological Department on Tuesday forecasting very heavy rain accompanied by lightning in several districts of the State over the next two days.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who reviewed the situation during the day, directed the District Collectors to remain prepared to tackle emergencies. He also asked the authorities to ensure that students participating in the Independence Day celebrations do not face any difficulty.
Letter issued
In the evening, the State government’s Home Department issued a letter to all Revenue Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors informing them that observation of Independence Day parades be restricted to police and paramilitary contingents only.
