Haryana to increase income of 1 lakh poor families

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal on Monday said to uplift the economic status of poor families in the State, the government has set a target to increase the ‘family income’ of about 1 lakh families, who are having lowest income — to at least ₹1 lakh per annum.

The process to identify such families through surveys has already started, which is likely to be completed by ensuing March 31, he said.

“We are in the process of identifying 1 lakh families having the lowest income across the State. A dedicated effort is being made to reach out to these families living in slums etc. so as to ensure that they get the scheme benefit. The identification of the 1 lakh families would be done under the ‘Parivar Pehchan Patra’ initiative. Local committees, working under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioners, will complete the survey for identifying such families in their respective districts. We are hopeful that by March 31, the first list of 1 lakh families will be prepared,” Mr. Lal told journalists here.

“Our goal is to make them employable. After increasing the income of these 1 lakh families, the target of next 1 lakh families will be set and this effort of uplifting the poor families will continue,” said the Chief Minister. He added that efforts would be made to provide employment opportunities to unemployed family members of these families so that their family income is increased.

“The Vice-Chancellor of Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Dr. Raj Nehru, has also been directed to prepare a list of required courses ensuring employment opportunities to students belonging to unprivileged, less-educated and backward families. Efforts will be made to increase income of the families by imparting education through the courses being offered under the skill development scheme to the eligible youth, women and others,” he said.

Mr. Lal said that industrialists would also be urged to adopt such poor families. “Not only will a scheme be formulated for such families to provide self-employment through interest-free loans, but also the cooperation of more than 40,000 self-help groups already running in the State would be sought. Work of connecting these poor families with self-help groups will be done and loans will also be provided to the groups for employment,” he said.
