A Surat sessions court on Tuesday night sent Patel agitation leader Hardik Patel to police custody till October 23 in a sedition case filed by police for his alleged advice to a distressed Patel youth to “kill 3-4 policemen.”
“The court has sent him in police custody till October 23. Police had asked for seven-day custody,” said a lawyer from Surat. Seeking his custody, the police argued that a detailed custodial interrogation was required to know what prompted him to suggest to the youth that he “kill policemen instead of committing suicide.”

Meanwhile, Hardik’s father Bharat Patel filed a petition in the High Court here seeking to set aside the sedition charge. Mr. Patel contended that “no offence can be made out against Hardik based on the video.”
