Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar held a high level review meeting on Monday and directed the department to formulate new rules to empower authorities to crack down on illegal operations along the coastal belt of the State.
The Minister directed officials to crack down on illegal shack operators, water sports operators, vendors and tourism stakeholders. A joint action committee is proposed to be constituted comprising of representatives from the Department of Tourism, Goa Police, and Captain of Ports to study and frame the necessary guidelines.
At the review meeting, the police said in May, 594 cases of unauthorised tourism activities had been booked as against the 484 between January and April 2017. Mr. Ajgaonkar has asked authorities to ensure shack allotment process is completed by August 15.
