Taking forward the Punjab Government’s “war against drugs”, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday announced cash rewards for providing information about drug peddlers and addicts to the police.
The public can provide information on police helpline number 181 or on mobile number 7696-181-181 through WhatsApp, so that strict action could be initiated, Mr. Badal said during a review meeting on functioning of helpline 181 here.
Mr. Badal asked the police to take instant action to nab the offenders following tips by the public.
Urging people to come forward fearlessly against the sale, consumption and use of narcotics in the State, Mr. Badal said the war against drugs could be won with the active help of people.
“The information provided by the public will be kept confidential and Rs 10,000 cash award will be provided on authentic reporting about the drug peddlers and drug addicts,” he said, according to an official release.
He said using the WhatsApp application the general public can not only register their complaints but also upload photographs, videos, documents etc of anti-social activities as well.
Mr. Badal said this provision would empower people to share information with police force and also provide feedback on the working of police officials deployed in the field..
He informed that “dial 181 Punjab Police Helpline” is both a helpline, as well as a Statewide grievance redressal platform which provides round-the-clock assistance to women, children, senior citizens, NRIs and other citizens who need quick police response, support and assistance.
He said this police helpline is multi-channel platform which could be accessed through multiple communication channels - Phone (181), Whatsapp/SMS (7696-181-181), Fax (0172-6626181), email (help@181pph.com) and web portal (www.181pph.com).
