Gita will help instil values: Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Sunday that his government decided to include verses of the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum to inculcate moral values in students.

“There is no education without culture, and this spiritual book will give society the right direction,” he said at the 14th State meeting of the Bharat Vikas Parishad.

Mr. Khattar lauded the Parishad, which has 46 branches, for following the values of service, assistance, culture and coordination. He himself had worked selflessly as a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and learnt a lot during that time. He honoured four girls for outstanding contribution in various fields, and said the Parishad would be given a plot in Sector 19 of HUDA in Kaithal, besides Rs. 5 lakh in assistance. He also announced a grant of Rs. 2 lakh for the welfare of the Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram.

Stressing the need to take governance to the grassroots, he said all 90 MLAs of the State would adopt one village each, on the model of the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, a Union government’s programme to develop villages. These villages would be developed as ‘Adarsh’ or model villages. With 15 MPs having adopted one village each under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, a total of 105 Adarsh villages would be developed in the State.
