The wanted BJP MLA, Giriraj Singh, and RJD MP Prabhunath Singh received partial relief from two Bihar courts on Friday.
The Saran court stayed till May 20 the execution of an arrest warrant against the RJD candidate from Maharajganj, while the Patna court granted the BJP leader, contesting the Nawada Lok Sabha seat, anticipatory bail.
Mr. Prabhunath Singh and his supporters were accused of breaking barricades on April 15 at the time of his arrival for filing his nomination. Another case pertains to his April 12 speech, made soon after the former Chief Minister, Rabri Devi, filed her papers for the Chapra Lok Sabha seat. Questioning the arrangements made by the EC for protecting the voting rights of the poor, Mr. Prabhunath Singh exhorted them to vote as many times as possible. The district administration slapped treason charges on him.
In the case of hate speech against Mr. Giriraj Singh, Patna district and sessions judge Birendra Kumar granted him anticipatory bail. The case was filed in Patna on April 21 for his speech asking those opposing Narendra Modi to go to Pakistan.
