Massive VHP meet today

With the issue of conversion or “ Ghar Vapasi ” (home coming) ranking high on its agenda, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad is scheduled to hold a “Viraat Hindu Sammelan” here on Sunday to commemorate fifty years of its existence. The outfit was formed in the city in 1964.

BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath, RSS joint secretary Dattatreya Hosbale, VHP leaders Ashok Singhal and Pravin Togadia and other Hindu leaders will address the event. The VHP expects around one lakh people to attend the Sammelan.

Vyankatesh Abdeo, senior VHP functionary, told The Hindu that the event was being held with the full support of the RSS and BJP. “The cadre [RSS and BJP] are fully involved with the preparations of the event,” he said.Besides raising the issue of bringing back Muslims and Christians into the Hindu fold or “ paravartan ” (reversal) as the VHP calls it, the event will also have discussions on the Ram Mandir, ‘Love Jihad’ and anti-cow slaughter law.
