Days after a Chandigarh-based 22-year-old woman alleged sexual assault by at least 40 men over four days in the Morni Hills area of Haryana’s Panchkula district, the police have arrested her husband under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Panchkula DCP Rajender Kumar Meena on Wednesday said that the Special Investigating Team, which was set up for probing the case, found information during the probe that led them to suspect the role of the victim’s husband.

“The probe revealed that the victim, her husband and the accused had telephonic conversations during the period of the incident. We have arrested the husband and invoked several sections under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act besides Section 370 of the IPC,” said Mr. Meena.

Kept captive

“The victim’s husband was produced in the court today and sent to police custody for three days. We are probing the matter from all possible angles,” he added.

The woman in her complaint had alleged that she was kept captive at a guest house in Kaimbwala village in the Morni area and raped by at least 40 men in turns between July 15 and July 18.
