The city police here on Monday forwarded to court after arresting 14 inter-State dacoits involved in a National Highway robbery incident last month.

DCP Sanjiv Arora said at least nine of them had waylaid a steel rod-laden lorry near Birupa Bridge on NH-5 under Jagatpur police station here on the night of August 26 last. The consignment belonging to a private company was on its way to Kolkata from Karnataka by road.

The police said the dacoits had sold the booty to at least five receivers, who were also arrested on charges of receiving the stolen properties. “All the 14 arrested on Sunday by the Jagatpur police were presented in a court on Monday and they were remanded in jail custody,” Mr. Arora said.

The police have seized from them the stolen lorry, 26 MT of steel rods, a car, a motorcycle and 18 mobile phones.

The arrests were made following registration of a case on the written complaint of one Ajit Singh, the manager of the Angul branch of the private company.
