Four Maoists killed, three arrested in Chhattisgarh

Four Maoists were killed and three arrested in two separate encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh on Friday.

“Three Maoists were killed in a joint operation by Chhattisgarh police and Andhra Pradesh’s elite anti-Maoist unit Greyhounds in Bijapur district,” informed R.K. Vij, Additional Director General (ADG) of Police, Anti-Naxal Operation, Chhattisgarh.

Five weapons were also recovered after the encounter, the ADG added.

In a separate incident, one Maoist was killed and three were arrested after an encounter between Sukma DRG (District Reserve Guard) and the Maoists near Tumma Vaagu village of Sukma.

“A DRG team of Sukma police conducted an operation after a tip-off about the presence of Maoist commander Nagesh and Sudhakar along with their Dalams (units). A fierce gun battle ensued between the Maoists and the DRG team near Tumma Vaagu village. One dead body of Maoist militia member Rama (27) was recovered after the encounter,” said S.R.P. Kalluri, Inspector General (IG) of Police (Bastar range).

Apka Pandu (27) a member of Maoist battalion, Madvi Bheema (28) member of Bhejji Maoist militia and Madvi Somlu of Kistaram Maoist militia were arrested during the encounter, added the IG.

One country-made gun, three detonators and other Maoist material were also recovered from the spot of Sukma encounter, said Mr. Kalluri.
