Four children run over by truck; protester killed in police firing

One person was killed in police firing on a mob that turned violent after four children were crushed to death by a truck at Gursahaiganj in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

The mob torched a bus, a fire tender and three trucks after storming the Gursahaiganj police station. The person killed in the firing was identified as 23-year-old Vipin.

Six children, aged between 8 and 14, who were walking on the Kannauj-Farrukhabad highway came under the wheels of the truck around 6.30 a.m. Two were seriously injured.

Special DG (Law and Order) Brij Lal said that the situation was under control. Two companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and additional forces from the Fatehgarh and Auraiya districts had been deployed.

About 20 persons have been detained by the police.
