Former Odisha minister Kalindi Behera passes away

: Veteran political leader and litterateur Kalindi Charan Behera passed away on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. The former minister and BJD vice president was 71

Beginning his career as a teacher from BJB College in Bhubaneswar, Kalindi was roped into politics by the legendary Biju Patnaik, when he unsuccessfully contested from Salepur segment as an Utkal Congress candidate in 1974 elections.

He however, won the seat in 1977 polls as a Janata Party candidate and subsequently as a Janata Dal candidate in the 1990 polls.

He has been elected to State Assembly five times from Cuttack district.
