Firecracker, threat letter thrown at Judge’s residence

Unidentified miscreants exploded a firecracker outside the official residence of District Judge Mahadev Katulkar, who is presiding over the trial of 2013 Jiram valley Naxal attack case, here, and also threw a threat letter.

“A bomb-like cracker was exploded near the porch of the Judge’s bungalow in Nehru Chowk area under Civil Line police station limits of the city early this morning,” a senior police officer said. Nobody was harmed in the incident, he added. The policemen deployed at the bungalow recovered a threat letter from the spot.

It had ‘Lal Salaam’ (a common greeting of ultras) written at the top. But the officer refused to divulge further details. The security provided to the Judge was beefed up after the incident.

On May 25, 2013, Naxals ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders in Jiram valley in Bastar district, killing 31 persons including former state Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, former leader of opposition Mahendra Karma, former Union Minister Vidya Charan Shukla and former MLA Uday Mudliyar. - PTI
