A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Gurgaon Deputy Mayor Parminder Kataria for allegedly raping a widow on the pretext of marrying her and providing her a job in the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon. Two more persons have been booked along with Parminder for criminal intimidation.

The case has been registered at a women’s police station in Sector 51 here.

“The case has been registered upon the complaint of a woman against the deputy mayor Gurgaon. The victim has alleged that the deputy mayor has raped her repeatedly by making false promises of marriage. She has also alleged that he, along with two others, have threatened her of dire consequences if she complains. The accused allegedly lured her with his powerful connections and offered a job to win her confidence. Investigations will be carried out as per law,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Deepak Saharan.

The 36-year-old victim is Kataria’s neighbour in Ashok Vihar. The two were in a live-in relationship for six months, but now she lives alone with her two children in her house in Sector 10, Gurgaon, police sources said. The victim had come in contact with Parminder only a couple of years back when she frequented the Deputy Mayor’s office for work.

“In her complaint, the victim has alleged that after her meeting with the Deputy Mayor, he had promised to marry her and offered her a job in the MCG to win her confidence. She alleged that Kataria exploited her physically on several occasions when they were in a live-in relationship”, said a police officer.

The FIR has been registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) IPC.
