Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah underwent a successful kidney transplant operation in London, family sources said on Monday.

His wife Molly has donated her kidney. According to their London-based daughter Hinna, both are doing well after the surgery on Sunday.

“My mother donated a kidney to my dad today (Sunday). Both surgeries were successful but it’s still early days. Please keep them in your thoughts,” Ms. Hinna wrote on her Twitter handle.

The National Conference patron was ailing for sometime and was under treatment in England. He could not take part in his party’s poll campaign for state assembly elections.

Busy with his party’s election campaign, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said: “My thoughts are with my parents as they both prepare for surgery today. I wish I could be there with them but that wasn’t to be.”
