Fadnavis govt. under fire for failure to keep promises

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - MUMBAI:

From scrapping toll to providing reservation for the Dhangar community, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Maharashtra is struggling to honour its key election promises.

On Tuesday, the government came under fire from all quarters after it allowed the Kharghar toll booth to open at Navi Mumbai on the Mumbai-Pune road, one of the busiest in the State.

Before the elections, the BJP had staged agitations against toll collection, and made high toll rates in the State an election issue.

The government is also struggling to provide reservation to the Dhangar community by including it in the Scheduled Tribe category. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that a solution would be found within 15 days, but Tribal Welfare Minister Vishnu Sawra is said to be against it.
