Eight persons killed in police action during a protest against the Inner Line Permit Bills in September 2015 were buried in Churachandpur district of Manipur on Wednesday.
The bodies had been preserved in a morgue for over 600 days.
Nine persons were killed in the violence, and one was buried earlier.
The Bills were passed by the Assembly on August 31, 2015. After a protest broke out, the Congress, then in power, maintained that the Bills were not detrimental to the tribal people. The issue was resolved after the BJP-led coalition came to power on March 15.
Among the tribes opposing the Bills were the Nagas. This is an achievement of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, after he helped to end the four-month economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council against the creation of news districts.
The Assembly passed the Bills after protracted agitations demanding an Inner Line Permit, which is required to enter certain restricted areas.
Some elected members were present at the function on Wednesday.
Gun salute
A gun salute was given to the bodies which were taken in procession from the morgue.
The police tightened security in the district, and shops and schools were closed.
