West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday urged people holding high public office to refrain from making any insensitive statements on Jammu and Kashmir. Ms Banerjee took to social media saying that such remarks are “hurtful , not only for J&K, but the entire nation."

While Ms Banerjee did not name the people occupying high office who made “ insensitive statements”, her comments are construed to be directed at her counterpart in Harayana Manohar Lal Khattar.

“We, and more so people holding high public office, must restrain ourselves from making insensitive comments about the beloved people of Jammu and Kashmir. These are hurtful, not only for J&K, but for the entire nation,” Ms Banerjee had said on social media during the day.

Mr Khattar’s remarks on Kashmir’s girls in the backdrop of scrapping of the special status for Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 has created an outrage.
