“The Centre should immediately initiate dialogue with civil society and moderate groups to bring normalcy in the Valley. If a political settlement is not arrived at soon, Kashmir may move towards a major civil war like in Iraq and Syria,” said former External Affairs Minister and Congress leader Eduardo Faleiro here on Saturday. He said weapons and arms could not solve and problem. “Start talks; talks with everybody.”

Mr. Faleiro said about 10,000 people, including security personnel, had been injured or killed in violence in Kashmir and over 1,000 youths were in jail.

“There have been innumerable human rights violations. The security forces are the only visible face of India in Kashmir today. Legislators and the civil government are not to be seen.” Mr. Faleiro said alienated youths are leading the anti-India protests. “Even women and girls are for the first time throwing stones at police vehicles.” Mr. Faleiro said, “Make the Line of Control a bit easy.Allow tempers to cool down.”
