Jammu and Kashmir DGP Prisons found dead in Jammu, probe started

Sources said the body bore multiple injuries and an attempt was also made to set the body on fire

J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Prisons Hemant Kumar Lohia was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his Jammu residence, the police said on Tuesday.

“The body of Lohia was found under suspicious circumstances (on Monday night). First examination of the scene of crime reveals that this was a murder case. The domestic help with the officer is absconding. A search has been started,” the police said.

Forensic teams and crime teams also reached the spot. “Investigation process has begun,” the police said.

Sources said the body bore multiple injuries and an attempt was also made to set the body on fire.

IPS officer Lohai was from 1992 batch IPS officer and was appointed as the DGP, Prisons, on August 2022.
