The Odisha government on Saturday issued an advisory to people to stay indoors in the five southern districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkanagiri and Koraput from Sunday morning when the impact from severe cyclonic storm HudHud would be maximum with wind speeds of 120 km per hour.
“We have already issued direction to Odisha State Road Transport Corporation to keep off major roads,” said P. K. Mohapatra, Special Relief Commissioner on Saturday.
The Odisha and Andhra Pradesh governments discussed a joint strategy to face the cyclone including water management of inter-State rivers.
“Andhra Pradesh government wanted to be informed about level water in Vansadhara and Nagabali rivers while Odisha wants Gota barrage in the neighbouring State to remain opened for expeditious water discharge,” said Chief Secretary G. C. Pati.
The Central Water Commission was monitoring river systems and reservoirs in bordering areas.The Odisha government discharged water from reservoirs in southern districts to accommodate likely overflow on Sunday when extremely heavy rains are expected.
