A day after a labourer died when an iron frame fell on him at an under-construction flyover near Bomikhal area of the city, the police on Friday arrested Pratap Kishore Panda, the managing director of Panda Infra which is executing the project.
The deceased, Ajay Vumicha (38), hailed from Sundargarh district. Another worker, Ananda Kumar Nayak, was admitted to a hospital with serious injuries.
In September 2017, a portion of the same project had caved in, killing one person and injuring 10 others.
“We have arrested the managing director of the construction company. We will arrest more people if their role is found in the incident,” said Commissioner of Police Y.B. Khurania.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced ex gratia of ₹5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
