Congress urges Lokayukta to probe govt. website crash

Party says govt. may try to upload ‘backdated’ Cabinet decisions

With the Maharashtra government’s website allegedly being unresponsive from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon, the Congress has written to the Lokayukta to investigate the matter, accusing the government of “large-scale corruption.”

Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant on Saturday accused the State Cabinet of taking various urgent decisions to extend financial gain to members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena. He demanded an inquiry into the decisions taken by ministers and departments during the last one week, before the model code of conduct for the Assembly elections came into effect.

The party demanded that the Lokayukta cancel all these decisions to prevent the government from uploading them as “backdated” clearances on the website. It asked the Lokayukta to investigate the reason for the website crash.

“We know the nature of this government. These are some of their general practices. We encountered various scams on March 31 — the last day of the financial year. This is a similar case. The government is trying to maximise financial gain by indulging in large-scale corruption, a day before the model code of conduct came into force. There are reports from reliable sources about this. The main reason why the website wasn’t working has a lot to do with this. There has been an unjustified use of power, and the justification will be given by uploading backdated decisions on the website,” Mr. Sawant said.
